# Set up CareerMax in Claude Code

Add the CareerMax MCP server to Claude Code with one command, sign in with /mcp, and optionally install the CareerMax skills. Then run your job search from the terminal.

## 1. Add the server

Run this in your terminal:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user careermax https://mcp.careermax.ai/mcp
```

`--scope user` makes CareerMax available in every project. Leave it out to add CareerMax to the current project only.

## 2. Sign in

Start Claude Code, run `/mcp`, choose **careermax** and authenticate. Your browser opens the CareerMax sign-in page. Sign in with your CareerMax account, or create one on the same screen. Claude Code stores the token, so you only do this once.

## 3. Add the skills (optional)

The CareerMax skills add guided workflows on top of the server: setup, the daily brief, applications, outreach, Storybank and interview prep. CareerMax works without them.

## 4. Start your job search

> Help me find a job

Claude Code asks once for your résumé, drafts your profile and shows it for your approval. After that, say "Run my CareerMax job search brief" each morning.

## Check that it works

Run `claude mcp list` in your terminal. CareerMax shows as connected. If it says it needs authentication, run `/mcp` in Claude Code and sign in again.

To remove CareerMax, run `claude mcp remove careermax`. Claude Code deletes the stored sign-in too.

## Using Claude on the web or desktop too?

Claude Code and the Claude app keep separate connections. To use CareerMax in both, also [set up CareerMax in Claude](https://careermax.ai/docs/set-up-claude). It's the same account, so your profile and applications are shared.
